Norbert de Jong: Outsider Art artist from Amsterdam

Norbert de Jong (Heerlen, 1965) lives and works in Amsterdam. As a self-taught Outsider Art artist, he has developed entirely outside the established art world. His work — expressive, figurative and full of colour — is immediately recognisable and has a strong individual identity.

Amsterdam plays a role in Norbert de Jong’s work. The city, the canals, the urban life — they recur in his paintings. Not as precise depictions, but as feeling. Canal parties, cyclists, figures in a cafe: the city is palpable in his work.
